Madeleine McCann: German prosecutor says he has 'evidence' missing girl is dead

A German prosecutor has claimed he has 'evidence' missing British girl Madeleine McCann is dead as authorities probe a new prime suspect.

Hans Christian Wolter is appealing to the public for help, saying investigators do not have enough 'hard evidence' to put the German suspect on trial yet,

The prosecutor said police need more information about where the new suspect has lived so they can search for Madeleine's body.

Maddie went missing age three on a family holiday with her parents in Praia de Luz, Portugal in 2007.

In the 13 years since her disappearance, her body has never been found as authorities launched a global search.

Last week, German authorities delivered a crushing blow to her parents, as they identified a suspect with a child sex offending record, currently in prison.

They also said they believe Maddie is dead and they know how she died.

German media named convicted rapist and paedophile Christian Brueckner as the suspect authorities are investigating in connection with Maddie's disappearance and death.

Mr Wolter told Sky News he believes there are other British victims of sex attacks and he has urged anyone with information to come forward to police.

He added: "After all the information we got, the girl is dead. We have no information that she is alive.

"All indication we have got that I can't tell you points in the direction that Madeleine is dead.

"We got things we cannot communicate that speak for the theory that Madeleine is dead, even if I have to admit that we don't have the body."

Brueckner, 43, was living out of a battered VW T3 Westerfalia camper van on the Algarve at the time of Maddie's disappearance.

Scotland Yard released pictures of two vehicles and a home linked to him during the time of her disappearance in their update last week.

They also publicised details of two phone numbers that swapped calls around the time Maddie disappeared from the holiday apartment in Praia de Luz.
