'Made it count' - Ex-West Ham United's striker's verdict on Bolton Wanderers' loss to Forest Green

Former West Ham United striker Dean Ashton felt Forest Green Rovers made what possession they had against Bolton Wanderers count as they defeated the Whites.

The Whites travelled to Gloucestershire again following Tuesday's night's defeat on the road to Cheltenham Town. They faced a Forest Green side sitting in the drop zone.

Connor Wickham scored what proved to be the winning goal in the first half. Despite chances for Dion Charles, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Kieran Saldier after the break, the Whites were unable to draw level and slipped to defeat.

Overall, the Gloucestershire side ended up having the ball for only a third of the game, but they put it to good use when they did have. Speaking as a pundit on the EFL Highlights show on ITV4, Ashton feels the contrasting styles of the two teams were on show as the hosts came out on top.

Ashton said: "Very contrasting styles, those two teams. Only 33% possession for Forest Green but they really made it count, and a clean sheet as well.

"They've got a player that at 29 years old, he's had terrible injury problems, Connor Wickham, and if he's fit then he's somebody that's got more than the capabilities at this level to be really, really good and that's now four goals in his last five."
