Made in Manchester - Dollie Demi

WHO ARE THEY?

A Manchester quartet who have been known to drop a cover of the Spice Girls song 'Wannabe' into their live sets. There is, however, nothing at all ironic or tongue-in-cheek about Dollie Demi's interpretation of that Nineties pop classic – this hotly-tipped four-piece are very much on their own attitudinal girl power crusade.

Built around the vocal/songwriting talents of frontwoman Demi Burbridge, these Manc upstarts have gone through various personnel changes over the past three years, but their current line-up – Demi, alongside Ella on guitars, Mia on bass, and Anna on drums – is surely the most potent realisation of their raucous, genre-hopping feminist pop manifesto. Their songs, which tackle subjects such as sex, love and body confidence with real lyrical acuity, brilliantly combine the breezy accessibility of bubble-gum pop with the brash muscularity of garage-rock.

Hot on the heels of their latest single, Unknown, the band are gearing up for a special Valentine's gig at the Castle this evening – the perfect opportunity to begin your love affair with these Manc music stars-in-waiting.
