Made in Manchester - Cold Water Swimmers

WHO ARE THEY?

A Mancunian trio who celebrated their first anniversary by performing a special gig inside a boxing ring in Salford. Of course, that choice of location seemed entirely fitting – here's a band whose music hits you firmly in the solar plexus.

Formed in 2018, Cold Water Swimmers – comprising former Dub Sex member Chris Bridgett (vocals/guitar), alongside Carrie Lawson (bass) and Selina Woolnough (drums) – are a superb illustration of how epic noise needn't be at the expense of musical nuance. Raw and visceral, their sound absorbs elements of glam, garage, post-punk and new-wave, before spewing it back out with strong hooks, propulsive rhythms and incisive, thought-provoking lyrics. The blistering Everything We've Ever Had (We've Had To Fight For) tackles the impact of austerity, while recent single Robots imagines a dark, technology-driven dystopia.

If you thought Tyson Fury was the most fearsome, combative sight you've seen this week, just wait until you witness these Manc music heavyweights.

FOR FANS OF
