Made in Manchester: Aughra

WHO ARE THEY?

Fronted by the multi-talented Sally Mason (who also performs in two other local bands Taylor & The Mason and The Happy Soul), Aughra have been charming Manchester audiences with their gritty, atmospheric blend of shoegaze and noir-rock.

Having begun as a Soundcloud project in early 2018, purely for their own enjoyment, the band have recently evolved into a formidable live outfit, adding James Field on drums and Mike Seal on bass.

Recalling the visceral power of Shellac and the heady atmospherics of Cocteau Twins, Aughra’s strength lies in their brilliant use of contrasting moods and textures - one minute languorous, the next snarling and carnivorous.

The end result – as shown on standout songs such as Dead Weight and Corpse White – is the sort of bewitching, mesmeric brew that wouldn’t sound out of place on a David Lynch soundtrack.

FOR FANS OF:

Cocteau Twins, Shellac, Chelsea Wolfe, Anna Calvi.

MAKE A DATE:

Aughra play the King’s Arms, Salford, on Saturday, June 22. Listen to tracks at -  soundcloud.com/aughramusic
