‘Madden NFL 20’ won’t let Tom Brady retire in 2020

Six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady turned 42 at the beginning of the month, and he’s preparing to play his 20th NFL season for the Patriots. Brady said in 2018 that he hopes to play until he’s 45 years old, and he recently signed a two-year contract “extension” in August, though the deal automatically voids after this season.

Brady is set to become a free agent in the 2020 offseason, and could conceivably walk away from the game a year form now. Virtual Tom Brady, however, will still be leading the Patriots in 2020.

For years, Madden players who control the Patriots in franchise modes have had to navigate the issue of Brady’s retirement. At the end of every season, older players from around the league will choose to retire, and Patriots fans often found themselves without the face of the franchise after just one year.

To address the issue, “Madden NFL 20” is now preventing Brady from calling it quits until at least 2021. The change was made in a game update that went live this week.

Via EA.com:

“Patriots QB Tom Brady will now be prevented from retiring at the end of the first season, based on his recently signed contract.”

Patriots fans won’t have to worry about starting Jarrett Stidham for at least two seasons.
