It’s officially July, which means the buzz around the football world is gradually going to swell over the next four weeks. One annual tradition that has developed over the course of the last decade? The buzz surrounding the release of EA Sports’ Madden franchise each summer — an unofficial marker of the return of football.
Yesterday, EA Sports kicked off some hype for their 2020 rendition, courtesy of the 2019 NFL Draft class. The individual player ratings for each of the rookies included in the game have been revealed! How did the Dolphins do? Here are their defensive rookie ratings, as set for the release of the game.
DT Christian Wilkins – 75 overall
LB Andrew Van Ginkel – 64 overall
DE Jeremiah Ledbetter – 63 overall
The good news? Wilkins was scored very favorably by EA Sports. The bad news for gaming Dolphins fans? Wilkins still scored as the 3rd best defensive tackle added to the division, trailing Quinnen Williams (80 overall — highest rookie in the class) and Ed Oliver (79 overall — 2nd highest player in the class).
Wilkins’ score is tied for the 9th highest rating assigned to any rookie in the game. And while that doesn’t prove anything about Wilkins’ actual pro prospects, it does mark that all indications from 2019 Draft feedback suggest Miami got themselves a good one.
The rest of the defensive class? We’ll just have to wait and see.
