The EA Madden NFL 20 player ratings reveals have begun and it’s clear to see, EA is serious about creating a gap between the truly elite players and others. Part of this new philosophy seems to have rookie ratingds coming in much lower than normal.
The highest-rated rookie headed to this year’s game is New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. He has an 80 overall rating.
If you’re wondering where the quarterbacks rank in overall rating, you’ll have to do a good amount of scrolling to find the first one. Don’t worry, I’ve used the handy filter to pull out the rookie signal callers, and here are the Top-10 ratings with three players tied for 10th.
- Kyler Murray – 73 Overall – Arizona Cardinals
- Dwayne Haskins Jr. – 72 Overall – Washington Redskins
- Drew Lock – 67 Overall – Denver Broncos
- Will Grier – 66 Overall – Carolina Panthers
- Tyree Jackson – 64 Overall – Buffalo Bills
- Daniel Jones – 63 Overall – NY Giants
- Easton Stick – 62 Overall – Los Angeles Chargers
- Gardner Minshew II – 59 Overall – Jacksonville Jaguars
- Jarret Stidham – 57 Overall – New England Patriots
- Ryan Finley – 56 Overall – Cincinnati Bengals
- Brett Rypien – 56 Overall – Denver Broncos
- Clayton Thorson – 56 Overall – Philadelphia Eagles
It’s no surprise, the No. 1 overall selection Kyler Murray is the highest-rated QB. Despite his lack of height, Murray’s athleticism (91 speed, 92 acceleration, and 90 agility) he edges out Washington’s Haskins by one rating point. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Haskins move ahead after the first rating update.
Haskins’ throwing ratings (89-85-80-81-78 vs. 89-82-78-82-87) are better than Murray’s, with the exception of the throw-on-the-run mark. The early play of Murray and Haskins, who are both expected to start from Day 1, will be a primary focus of the NFL and the Madden Ratings Adjusters.
After Murray and Haskins, there is a significant dropoff. The Broncos’ Drew Lock is next with a 67 overall. The Broncos have two rookie QBs with Lock and Brett Rypien, who is rated a 56 overall, but if they have to take the field for you in Madden 20, there could be problems.
New York Giants rookie Daniel Jones doesn’t appear to be in any virtual shape to step in for Eli Manning. With an overall rating of a 63, it’s hard to imagine him being effective in Madden 20. Expect to see the rest of the Madden ratings roll out over the next few weeks leading up to the early access release date of July 31. Expect to see the 99-rated player list revealed next, along with the full list of Superstar X-Factor players.
Madden 20 releases worldwide for PS4, Xbox One and PC on August 2.
