Madcap Hotline vendetta against Ange resurfaces and Celtic diehards told Tottenham safer bet than Beale threat

Celtic thumped Aberdeen 5-0 to earn their Premiership title spurs but Hoops on the Hotline were more concerned manager Ange Postecoglou could soon be heading there.

The Australian is the bookies’ favourite for the Tottenham job after winning back-to-back titles in his two years in Glasgow.

And Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “Celtic produced a five-star performance against Aberdeen spurred on by rumours that Ange Postecoglou might be moving to Spurs. It was a special day flying the league flag but let's hope big Ange is not flying down south any time soon.” William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: “I’m torn as a Celtic and Spurs fan. While I’m so happy with what we achieved with Ange and hope he stays for a few more seasons, if he does leave then I hope it’s for Spurs. They need a manager who has fire in his belly and can bring the best out of players. Either way I will be happy and sad.”

However, Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “Why would the Celtic manager want to swap Celtic for a Spurs job that would last at maximum six months? Daniel Levy is a control freak, all his former managers can’t be wrong.”

Meanwhile Allan Flett was in bullish mood when he emailed: “All season long my fellow Hotliners have criticised me for calling Postecoglou tactically inept. But next season you will all be eating humble pie. If he’s still at Celtic he won’t have the savvy to compete with new look Rangers and if he’s lured to the EPL, he will be sacked before Christmas.”

Aberdeen gave Celtic a guard of honour but Dons duo Ross McCrorie and Graeme Shinnie didn’t join their team mates in applauding the champions.

Bill Lockerbie, Northampton , said: “What does it say for McCrorie and Shinnie after their childish and amateur rebuke of the champions at Celtic Park? Did they consider the impact on young footballers, sporting integrity and common decency when refusing to congratulate the winners of the SPL? In every other sport acknowledging the eventual winner is common practice except, it would seem, by simple minded individuals like these two. They are more to be pitied than scolded.”

And Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, added: “Incredible gesture from Aberdeen on Saturday, giving Celtic a guard of honour before lying down for 90 minutes. I wonder if the players offered to clear up the black and green bin bags after the game?”

Over in Edinburgh the last derby of the season ended in a stalemate - and a mass brawl as the two dug outs clashed leading to four red cards after the final whistle.

The draw means Hearts finish fourth and two points ahead of their rivals.

But John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “Hearts can laugh all they want at Hibs’ expense after the derby. Let's be honest, the Hibees have been woeful this season yet it's beyond belief they've finished only two points behind a Hearts team that not so long ago were expected to leave the rest behind. So go on Jam Tarts, laugh at the Hibs, but rest assured the Aberdeen support will be laughing a damned sight louder at Hearts. It's small consolation waiting to see if Celtic will help Hibs into European competition. I for one will be glad to see the back of a frankly turgid, stop start season.”

David Cook, Restalrig, said: “Ten-man Hearts are once again the big team in Edinburgh. Natural order restored. Well done Steven Naismith and his players.”

Meanwhile Hugh McKirdy emailed: “I hope VAR improves and gets an overhaul during the summer. The decision to send off Hearts’ Alex Cochrane was abysmal for an incident that was completely accidental and a yellow card all day long.”

Final word to James Forsyth, Bellshill, who is worried by the bid to rebrand his local club as Shamrock Albion Rovers. James said: “Albion Rovers must stay as Albion Rovers. Who are these clowns who want to bring more division into Scottish Football? Albion are a Scottish club, not an Irish, and are welcome to all.”
