Madame Web: Secret Marvel movie has Amy Adams and Charlize Theron on shortlist

Amy Adams and Charlize Theron are on the shortlist for a top secret Marvel movie that has just been put into development.

Veteran TV director SJ Clarkson has signed on to direct the project, which is believed to be the first female-fronted comic book movie to be produced by Marvel and Sony.

According to Variety, insiders suggest that it will revolve around Madame Web, an elderly clairvoyant who is connected to a life support system that looks like a giant spider’s web.

She originated in a 1980 issue of The Amazing Spider-Man comic books.

Both Adams and Theron have reportedly been mentioned as stars Sony wish to speak to for the part, but neither have committed to the role or met with production.

Sony’s Marvel Universe kicked off with 2018’s Venom, starring Tom Hardy, and will continue with a forthcoming Venom sequel and a movie about vampire superhero Morbius – who will be played by Jared Leto.

Clarkson, who has worked on series including Jessica Jones and Succession, was previously attached to a fourth Star Trek movie.

That mooted film, which would have involved time travel and actors Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth playing Captain Kirk and his father, respectively, wasn’t ultimately able to get off the ground.
