The track I’ll be opening my next DJ set with
Silas & Snare: Biometric
You think you know where the tune’s going but you don’t. It’s the ultimate opening statement.
The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
Lil Silva: Seasons
It’s always a good sign when the crowd sing along to an instrumental. No lyrics, just melody.
The track that currently gets the most rewinds
Sir Spyro ft Teddy Brukshot, Lady Chann & Killa P: Top A Top
The filthiest grime tune around. Spyro’s productions are consistently keeping the grime scene alive and exciting. Lady Chann is Queen. Teddy Brukshot’s raspy tones are imperative and empowering, and that Killa P signature flow, where the UK meets Jamaica, rounds the tune off perfectly.
The track that’s been unfairly slept on this year
Levelz: LVL 11
I wouldn’t say the Levelz mixtape has been slept on by the underground music scene, but I don’t see why it couldn’t cross over to the mainstream had it been pumped through a corporate major-label machine.
The track I wish I’d signed to my label
Pearson Sound: Quivver
Just when I think he’s made the best tune he’s ever made, he comes out with another game-changer. Absolute production wizard.
The track I’d play to show off my eclectic tastes
Lil’ Louis & The World: I Called U (But You Weren’t There)
Heard this on the Norwood Soul Patrol on Rinse and couldn’t get enough of it. The dialogue is jokes, and I love a bit of jazz.
The track I wish I’d never played
Jermaine Stewart: We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off
In my experience that song only serves as a taunting invitation for dancing club-goers to prove him wrong.
The track I’d play at my funeral
UK Apachi & Shy FX: Original Nuttah
Go out with a bang!
