Madagascar international Bastien Héry has ended a frustrating spell at Bohemians by signing a one-year deal with Finn Harps.
The midfielder returns to the north-west having spent the second half of last season on loan at Derry City after struggling to break into a settled Gypsies side.
29-year-old Héry joined Bohs from Linfield at the beginning of the 2021 season but intermittent injuries stalled his progress.
The form of captain Keith Buckley and youngsters Dawson Devoy and Ross Tierney, now of Motherwell, limited opportunities to break into the team once fit.
2020 wasn’t all bad for the former Paris Saint-Germain trainee, however, as he received his first call-up for Madagascar in March and debuted in a friendly with Burkina Faso in October.
And a loan move to Derry City in July provided him with some much-needed gametime, and he made ten appearances as Ruaidhri Higgins’ side qualified for Europe ahead of Bohs.
“I am excited to be at Harps,” Héry told the Harps media team.
“When I spoke to Ollie and he explained his plan for the team I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.
“Everyone knows Finn Park is a tough place to go so I’m looking forward to playing there as a Finn Harps player this season.”
Héry is well-known to Harps boss Ollie Horgan, having spent the past five years in the League of Ireland and Irish League.
The Parisian joined now-defunct Limerick from Accrington Stanley ahead of the 2017 season before joining Waterford the following year.
Héry was named in the PFAI team of the year for his performances with the Blues but was sold to Linfield midway through the following season.
Horgan said: “Bastien is a talented lad who will give us a lift, especially going forward.
“He knows the league well, and knows what it takes to get results in what will be a very tough Premier Division.”
