'Mad to think' - Nottingham Forest fans make cheeky observation after big win

Nottingham Forest fans delighted in an important victory for their side as Coventry City were beaten 2-1.

The Reds came from behind to claim three points against the Sky Blues at St Andrew’s, making it one defeat in nine Championship games for Chris Hughton’s side.

Against a team also fighting at the bottom end of the table, the win moved Forest up to 19th spot as they looked to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three.

And, tongue no doubt firmly in cheek, some supporters pointed out the gap to the play-off places is only 13 points.

Lewis Grabban got the equaliser for the visitors, just a few minutes after Max Biamou had put Coventry in front.

An own goal from Michael Rose in the second half then proved to be the difference between the two teams.

A promising debut from Manchester United loanee James Garner caught the eye, while Joe Worrall and Brice Samba ensured the Reds showed defensive resolve.

Here’s what fans have been saying on social media.

Coventry had taken the lead  when Callum O’Hare broke forward at pace as Forest felt there was a foul in the build-up prior to the midfielder receiving the ball.

But O’Hare continued to feed the ball to Biamou who, left one on one with Cyrus Christie, dropped the shoulder, before curling a terrific effort into the bottom corner with pace and accuracy.

It was an excellent finish, but the Reds showed their powers of recovery to find an equaliser as Sammy Ameobi pulled the ball back from the byline for Grabban to smash in from 12 yards.

From then on Forest had the better chances, with set-pieces proving a real problem for the Sky Blues as Fillip Krovinvovic and Anthony Knockaert’s deliveries put the ball into real danger areas.

It almost brought reward when Garner met a corner at the near post, but his glancing header fizzed just over.

Knockaert then showed wonderful skill to skip past Sam McCallum, but drilled low and hard past the near post.

The second goal which Forest had been threatening finally arrived after the break when Christie escaped down the right and delivered a superb cross which hit Rose and went into the net.

Coventry fought back strongly in a bid to claim an equaliser, and it required a goalline clearance from Grabban to keep them ahead when he cleared Leo Ostigard’s header off the line.

But in stoppage time there was a hold up of around eight minutes as substitute Amadou Bakayoko needed carrying off the pitch on a stretcher after being clattered accidentally in a challenge with Samba.

Once play resumed, Forest saw out the remaining time to seal a 2-1 win.
