Mad Max revs up fans driving the screen to the streets

From fuel interceptors to flares, wasteland warriors can now turn heads in suburbia or the desert with their own Mad Max car.

Australian director George Miller's dystopian world has become a reality with Monaros, Falcons and Valiants on sale as part of the franchise's bid to connect with fans.

Be warned, though: there's a starting price of $275,000.

It will also take six to 18 months from blueprints to delivery for one of the limited collection of 25 vehicles from the Mad Max Factory on Sydney's outskirts.

"The vehicles are such an iconic part of the Mad Max world," Miller said.

"It's impressive to see that level of detail and cinematic presence carried through so faithfully for collectors."

The Oscar winner explained how the films became a cult classic because original hero Max Rockatansky's story was not specific to Australia but had an "Australian feel about it".

"(The international audience) recognised something about the Australian landscape and our vehicle culture," Miller told AAP in 2024 at the premiere of Furiosa: A Mad Max saga.

"That had a resonance."

Hollywood producer Doug Mitchell said the engineering marvels were a unique opportunity for car enthusiasts and film fans to splurge in style by purchasing a V8 Interceptor Razor Cola or a Nux Car.

"For collectors, authenticity is everything," he said.

"What stands out here is the commitment to creating something that feels true to the films and true to the scale and drama people remember on screen."

Drivers can also own a piece of movie magic by customising their cars to emulate the battle-tested vehicles at a more manageable price range.

A Max Rob steering wheel will set punters back a mere $2500.
