Macron thanks Kipchoge for 'patience' after Nairobi morning run

French President Emmanuel Macron joined legendary Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge for an early morning jog in Nairobi on Monday.

It took place on the third day of Macron’s tour of Africa.

Both men, visibly in high spirits, maintained a light tempo over almost eight kilometers. Kipchoge donned his signature white sleeves with Macron opting for a simple t-shirt and shorts.

Kipchoge is widely regarded as one of the greatest marathon runners in history.

The two-time Olympic champion (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020) also won a world crown, 11 World Marathon Major titles and set two official world records.

He became the first person to break the two-hour marathon barrier under special conditions with an unofficial time of one hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds, in Vienna in 2019.

The 48-year-old Macron, who is an avid runner, maintained a good pace, but still thanked Kipchoge for his 'patience'.

Later on Monday, the French President co-hosted an economic summit with his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto, at the University of Nairobi.
