macOS Catalina update will let you use your iPad as a second screen for your Mac

Apple's next software update for Mac computers will allow users to wirelessly connect an iPad for use as a second screen.

The new feature, known as Sidecar, is part of the macOS Catalina update, which is due to roll out to Mac computers in the Autumn.

Apple said that Sidecar would make it easy for Macbook users on the go to spread their work out over two displays, wherever they happen to be.

So you can refer to one app while you work in another, or see how a presentation looks in presentation mode on your iPad while editing it on your Mac.

You can also mirror the screen on your Mac to have two screens displaying the same content, making it perfect for sharing with others.

When paired with an Apple Pencil, users can also use the iPad to draw, sketch or write in any Mac app that supports stylus input.

For example, you could mark up documents on the iPad with Apple Pencil and see the updates live on your Mac, or create a sketch on your iPad and easily insert it into any document on your Mac.

"Users will appreciate how they can expand their workspace with Sidecar, enabling new ways of interacting with Mac apps using iPad and Apple Pencil," said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.
