Mackensie Alexander named Vikings’ most improved player

The 2018 season didn’t go the way the Vikings wanted. But there were some positives. One of those positives was the play of third-year cornerback Mackensie Alexander.

After struggling his first two seasons, the 2017 second-round pick stepped out of Mike Zimmer’s doghouse and into the spotlight.

Mike Renner from Pro Football Focus named Alexander as the Vikings’ most improved player for the 2019 season.

Here’s what Renner wrote about Alexander:

The former second-rounder had a rough go of it his first couple years in Minnesota before finally settling into the slot role this past season. He broke up eight passes and didn’t allow a touchdown in his coverage.

It came at a good time for Alexander with 2019 being the last year of his rookie contract. If he performs the way he did last season, he should get a nice little contract extension.

On paper, the Vikings look in pretty good shape at cornerback heading into 2019 with Alexander, Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes and Mike Hughes.
