A self-employed music teacher in North Queensland has been charged with allegedly indecently treating a child at his home studio.
Police allege the 39-year-old man from Mackay committed the offences during private music lessons, between January last year and earlier this month.
He is charged with grooming a child under the age of 16 and using the internet to procure an indecent act, along with two counts of indecent treatment.
Detective Acting Inspector Mick Searle said the alleged offences were concerning.
"This behaviour is going on, it can be quite manipulative and we need to bring it to the surface."
He said investigations began after the girl, aged in her mid teens, and her family came forward.
"We would encourage anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation or even suspects they're in a similar situation to contact us straight away."
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
"We want to reaffirm with parents and carers that if they notice changes in behaviour with their young people, if they notice peculiar activity on their social media accounts, that they act on that," Detective Acting Inspector Searle said.
"Whether it be in relation to current things that might be going on or any other [matter] they might have suspicions about.
"It's something we really need to bring to the surface because the risk to our young people are quite significant in that regard."
Investigations into the man, who used social media channels to advertise his music business, are continuing.
He is expected to face the Mackay Magistrates Court on August 17.
