Mack Wilson wins award as Browns top rookie in training camp

Mack Wilson made a habit of stealing the football, and the show, during the 2019 Cleveland Browns training camp. For his impressive efforts in the 18 days of practices in Berea, the linebacker was honored with the Maurice Bassett Award as the team’s most outstanding rookie in training camp.

Wilson earned the honor from the credentialed media, which voted for the award. He follows Baker Mayfield last season and Myles Garrett in 2017, as well as fellow LB Christian Kirksey, who won the honor in 2014.

The fifth-rounder from Alabama consistently made plays in the passing game and showed impressive range and reactions in drills and team reps. He beat out three defensive players drafted above him: Greedy Williams, Sione Takitaki and Sheldrick Redwine.

The award is named in honor of Maurice Bassett, a fullback for the Browns from 1954-1956.
