Mack Wilson ready to use his draft-day slide as a chip on his shoulder

Mack Wilson saw his name in the first round of many 2019 NFL mock drafts during the 2018 college season. The Alabama linebacker was generally regarded as a Day 2 prospect even heading towards the draft weekend, a fairly consensus top-100 talent.

It didn’t play out that way. Wilson fell all the way to the fifth round, No. 155 overall. That’s where the Browns selected Wilson. Now he’s out to prove the Browns made a major steal that late in the draft.

He’s ready to use the unforeseen draft slide as a chip on his shoulder for Cleveland against the rest of the league.

“Of course,” Wilson said in his introductory press conference. “That chip is going to always be on my shoulder. I’m going to always think about it.”

He’s not bitter, however.

“I’m not disappointed at all,” Wilson said with a smile to his voice. “Most of all, I’m thankful for this opportunity.”

Wilson figures to compete for a spot at off-ball linebacker. He wore No. 51 in the team’s rookie minicamp.
