Maciej Tarnogrodzki appointed new UCD manager

UCD have moved swiftly to replace former manager Collie O’Neill.

Maciej Tarnogrodzki was last night named as the man who will succeed O’Neill after he was sacked on Monday.

The Polish coach, who previously worked with Bray Wanderers, has been working with the College’s under-19 side since 2017.

Tarnogrodzki recently completed his UEFA Pro-Licence and will be in charge of the team for their FAI Cup second round clash with St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday.

The Students are six points adrift at the bottom of the Airtricity Premier Division with just eight games left to play.

UCD parted company with manager O'Neill after eight years with the club and four years at the helm after the Students lost 10-1 to Bohemians at Dalymount Park last Friday night.

The Drogheda native guided College through the 2015 Europa League campaign and back to the Premier Division.

But, this summer, he expressed his frustration at losing his best players Gary O'Neill and Neil Farrugia to Shamrock Rovers as his side fell to the Premier Division basement.
