Machete-wielding robbers attacked a shop keeper after storming a post office.

Two men targeted the post office in Richmond Drive, Leigh, on Wednesday morning.

Police say the pair escaped with a quantity of cash after assaulting the shop keeper.

The 64-year-old man was left requiring hospital treatment for minor injuries, but has since been discharged.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 6.50am on Wednesday 27 May 2020 police were called to a report of an armed robbery in Leigh.

"A 64-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged after two men - who were armed with machetes - entered a post office on Richmond Drive and assaulted the shop keeper before they fled the scene with a quantity of cash.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 3616 quoting 0434 of 27/05/20 or the independent charity - Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
