Machete armed boy threatens to cut girl after 'inappropriate comments' and duo 'sniff cocaine' on Dublin train

A dangerous young boy threatened a teen girl with a machete and two passengers were "doing lines of cocaine" on a table on a Dublin to Cork train.

These shocking revelations are according to complaints made to Irish Rail in the space of 18 months on the troublesome railway line.

In one incident, a duo were spotted by a passenger using drugs on the busy train while in another case, a 19-year-old woman says a young boy threatened to hit her with the weapon.

The teen girl said she was approached by three teenage boys who made "inappropriate sexual comments" to her before threatening her.

She says one of them said he'd hit her head with a bottle and machete if she didn't talk to him.

The array of complaints were issued to Irish Rail between January 2020 and June 2021 on the route which the company say is their busiest inter-city service.

Another complaint claimed two passengers had a number of drugs on a table which they were consuming in front of everyone.

National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) spokesman Dermot O'Leary said: "The assistance of a dedicated transport police would help."

He continued: "The Cork-Dublin line is like a drug route at this stage. Our members certainly know who the drug-dealers are, or the mules are most of the point, they know who’s carrying drugs.

"A dedicated public transport division would help. Politicians jump up and down when things happen and I think it’s only a matter of time before something serious is going to happen unfortunately."

Irish Rail added that there was 26 complaints over the period which outlines that the majority of journeys had no reported incidents.
