Macedonian wonderkid and former Tottenham target reportedly turns down chance to join Cardiff City

Fenerbahce youngster Eljif Elmas has reportedly rejected a the chance to join Cardiff City.

According to Turkish outlet F5 Hamer , Elmas has decided that it would be better for his career to stay in Istanbul, although he's so far not enjoyed the best of seasons.

Fenerbahce have struggled in the Super Lig this season, and currently sit 13th - four points clear of the relegation zone, and Elmas has scored just once in 34 appearances.

Nevertheless the 19-year old remains highly rated in the Turkish capital, and netted twice for Macedonia in their Euro 2020 qualifying win over Latvia on Thursday.

Reports in Turkey suggest that his showings for his country have convinced Fenerbahce manager Ersun Yanal to give special attention to the youngster when he returns to Istanbul as the club bid to get their season back on track.

Cardiff appear to be the latest Premier League team to take an interest in the midfielder, with Tottenham and Leicester City credited as previous admirers.

However, it seems Cardiff is not a destination that interests the teenager, who allegedly feels he stands a better chance of realising his potential at Fenerbahce, where he is contracted until the summer of 2022.
