Macclesfield Town appoint ex-Ireland international Mark Kennedy as new boss

FORMER Ireland international Mark Kennedy is the new Macclesfield Town boss.

It is the 43-year-old’s first job as top dog having previously worked as a respected academy coach at Manchester City and Under-23 gaffer with Wolves.

He also served as Sol Campbell’s assistant at Macclesfield for a spell last season before the former England defender left the club in August.

Kennedy - who won 34 caps for Ireland between 1995 and 2002 - has agreed an initial short-term deal until the end of the season.

He will be assisted by former Crystal Palace and Southampton defender Danny Butterfield and Danny Whitaker, who had been caretaker boss.

Kennedy was a Wolves stalwart as a player but also had spells with Liverpool, Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

He also had spells playing for Ipswich Town, Cardiff City, Wimbledon and Millwall.
