Macclesfield boss Sol Campbell not playing it safe as he looks to condemn Notts County to relegation

Macclesfield boss Sol Campbell says he has no intention of playing for the draw to keep his side in League Two as he looks to condemn his former club Notts County to the drop.

The Silkmen need just a point from their home game with Cambridge to secure their survival while Notts must hope they lose and also beat Swindon to avoid relegation.

Alan Hardy takes responsibility for Notts County's nightmare season

Campbell made just one appearance for Notts during the Munto fiasco in 2009 and three days after appearing in a 2-1 defeat at Morecambe, his five-year contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

Ten years later, he can now relegate Notts to non-league football for the first time in their 157-year history and while he has revitalised Macclesfield with his first job in management, he wants to finish the job off properly.

“The main thing is you’ve got to set your stall out, do it properly and train well,” he said.

“We will always play to win and not look to play for a draw.

The odds are stacked against them, but Neal Ardley is happy that Notts County are still in the fight

“If you do that things can go wrong. You’ve got to stay switched on.

“It’s not over and we have to approach the game properly.”
