A health food shop is urging customers not to eat their macadamia nuts amid fears they are contaminated with E.coli.
Grape Tree is recalling their Raw Unsalted Macadamia Nuts after finding the potentially deadly bacteria in one of their batches.
Any customers who have bought the affected batch are being urged not to consume the product.
The affected bunch have a batch code of G41 5 101 250610 and are the 250g size pack with a best before date of July 11, 2026.
A spokesperson for Grape Tree said: “If you have bought Raw Unsalted Macadamia Nuts 250g as detailed above, do not eat them.
“Instead, check if you have bought the affected batch code. You can do this by taking a picture of this notice or writing down the batch code/best before date for reference at home.
“Return the product to the store for a full refund (with or without a receipt).”
E.coli is a bacteria that can make people seriously ill, with symptoms including severe diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and sometimes haemolytic uremic syndrome, (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure which could be fatal.
E. coli can stay in your stomach without hurting you, but some strains can make you very sick and there are concerns it is one of these inside some of the nut batches.
The Food Standards Agency also shared the product recall notice, adding that it is England, Wales and Scotland specific.
A spokesperson said: “If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
