Mac Jones told the media he “secretly” wanted to land with the New England Patriots, who drafted him at 15th overall in the 2021 NFL draft.
But that was during an introductory press conference. It’s hard to know how genuine a prospect is being, especially because he was being asked about how he felt about not getting drafted at third overall, where many thought the San Francisco 49ers would take him. But clearly, Jones really wanted to play for Bill Belichick — after playing for Nick Saban at Alabama.
After the Patriots took Jones, he took the stage in Cleveland and hugged NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. That’s where Jones seemed to have a truly unfiltered moment.
“This is what I wanted. Don’t tell anybody,” Jones said.

That’s awesome.
Jones, who is a huge Tom Brady fan, will get the chance to replace the greatest quarterback of all time as the Patriots attempt to usher in a new era of success. Jones will need to be the centerpiece of that new era.
