When the San Francisco 49ers traded up to the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, it was obvious they made the move to acquire a new quarterback.
Which one, though?
The rumor mill seems to think Alabama’s Mac Jones is their man, and Vegas appears to agree.
The latest odds from BetMGM have Jones as the betting favorite to land with the 49ers at No. 3, ahead of Ohio State’s Justin Fields and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance.
While Jones was once considered a mid-round prospect, his impressive 2020 campaign that included an undefeated season and another national title for the Crimson Tide has made him much more popular as a potential first-round pick.
That said, seeing him leapfrog the likes of Fields and Lance on draft day would be a curious development, and one that would certainly be highly scrutinized. This year’s draft class is already full of intriguing storylines with a loaded quarterback class, and this pick would only add more fuel to that fire.
