M80 crash leads to huge queues on Scots motorway as lanes closed by emergency services

Emergency crews have raced to the scene of a crash on a major Scots road.

All lanes northbound on junction five of the M80 near Auchenkilns have been restricted after the smash at around 7.50am this morning.

Commuters have been warned of 'extremely heavy' traffic in the area.

It is unclear at this time whether there have been any serious injuries from the crash.

Police have been called to the scene.

Traffic Scotland has advised drivers to be aware of the incident and the heavy build-up of traffic as a result- and advised using alternative routes.

Tweets from the government body read: "#M80 Auchenkilns

"All lanes northbound restricted at J5 due to an RTC.

"Police en route.

"Traffic is extremely heavy on approach."

Another tweet at 8am read: "#M80 Auchenkilns

"Northbound now CLOSED at junction 5 due to an RTC

"Police on scene.

"Please #UseAltRoute where possible."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 7.45 am on Tuesday, 11 January, 2022, police received a report of a three vehicle road crash on the M80 at junction 5 northbound near Auchenkilns.

“Emergency services attended and the road was closed for a short time to allow the vehicles to be removed.

“There were no reports of any injuries.”
