M80 car fire as emergency services race to scene amid traffic chaos

Emergency services have raced to the M80 after a vehicle caught fire at the M8 slip road this morning.

The blaze began at junction 13 westbound near Provan in Glasgow.

Traffic Scotland reported the incident at 8.26am, advising motorists to expect delays as fire crews rush to the scene.

Luckily there were no injuries from the fire.

Traffic Scotland’s post on Twitter reads: “M80 Vehicle Fire.

“M80 southbound slip to M8 westbound is partially blocked due to a vehicle fire.

“Traffic is queuing on approach.

“Emergency Services are en route.”

A Police Scotland spokesman added: “We became aware of an incident this morning at 8.15.

“A vehicle was on fire on the M8 westbound at junction 13.

“There is no sign of any injuries.”

At 8.40am, Amey SW Trunk Roads reported on Twitter that the road had partially reopened.

They said: “S/B J1 onto M8 W/B at J13 Lane 2 has re-opened.

"Lane 1 remains closed to assist emergency services deal with vehicle fire. Expect delays.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We were alerted at 8.14am on Monday, March 1 to reports of a vehicle on fire on the hard shoulder of the M8.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the Westbound M8 Junction 13 where firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.

“There were no reported casualties.
