M8 West Lothian rush hour smash sees vehicle plough into central reservation

Edinburgh commuters are facing rush hour delays on Wednesday morning after a collision on the M8 West Lothian in which three cars have been involved.

Both lanes eastbound at Junction 4A and J3A between Whitburn and Bathgate are currently restricted due to the three-car smash, with reports suggesting one car collided with the central reservation.

Alerting road users to the incident, Traffic Scotland alerters motorists to the incident on Twitter.

A tweet read:: "New 7.37a, M8 Junction 3A Bathgate. The Eastbound carriageway lane two of two is currently restricted due to a collision.

"Police and TRISS are on route."

A live traffic camera from the scene show the central reservation heavily damaged and parts of debris strewn across the road, although traffic appears to be making its way through the incident via the inside lane.

Motorists have been urged to approach with care and delays can be expected, although the vehicles involved appear to have moved on from the initial collision area.

The motorway has seen numerous accidents in recent weeks, causing huge delays for commuters within Edinburgh and the Lothians, being the main route between the capital and Glasgow.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
