M8 rush hour delays after early morning smash leaves motorists queuing

Motorists are being warned to expect heavy delays on the M8 in West Lothian after an early morning car crash.

The collision took place on the eastbound carriageway near J3A Bathgate at around 7.30am on Friday.

First responders were called to the scene and managed to move the two stricken motors off the carriageway around 20 minutes later.

However, Traffic Scotland is reporting that drivers are still facing knock on delays of more than 30 minutes.

They tweeted: “M8 RTC now all clear on the M8 eastbound J3A Bathgate. Both lanes are running. Traffic remains heavy back to Harthill.

“Delays approx 35 minutes.”

Police Scotland have confirmed they were called to a two vehicle crash but details of any injuries are not currently known.

A force spokesperson said: "Police were called around 7.20am on Friday, 11 February, 2022 following the report of a two vehicle road crash on the M8 eastbound at junction 3A near Bathgate.

"There are no details of injuries at this time and officers remain in attendance. The road is not closed."
