M8 crash: Motorway closed westbound as police investigate early morning accident

Police accident investigation work is ongoing at the scene of a crash that occurred on the M8 earlier this morning.

The motorway has been closed Westbound since 6:20am this morning between Junction 29 A737 (St James / Paisley) and Junction 31 A8 Greenock Road (Bishopton).

Motorists are being advised to use an alternative route with diversions in via Kilmacolm, Bridge of Weir and Linwood on the A737, B777, A760, A78 and A8.

Traffic information site INRIX is reporting that the closure is causing congestion back to Junction 27.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police were called around 5.05am following the report of a one vehicle road crash on the M8 Westbound and junction 31.

"Officers are in attendance and the road is currently closed westbound. The eastbound carriageway has now reopened. Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident."

UPDATE: All lanes restricted Westbound has been cleared.
