M8 motorway traffic disruption after reports of a carpet blocking the road

Traffic was disrupted on the M8 motorway in Glasgow this morning - after reports of a carpet blocking the road.

The Trunk Road Incident Support Service (TRISS) were called out to deal with the unusual debris 'with a magic lamp', after it was reported.

The rogue carpet was spotted on the eastbound section of motorway between junctions 11 and 12 by Garthamlock in Glasgow's East End shortly after 8am this morning.

Traffic Scotland advised: "NEW 08:10 #M8 debris reports of a carpet on the road eastbound between J12-11 TRISS are en route (with a magic lamp)

"#TakeCare on approach in the meanwhile."

Traffic Scotland later advised, at 8.30am, that the carpet had 'flown away' and that all lanes were up and running again.

It's unclear what led to the bizarre incident, or if the driver responsible for transporting the carpet was aware it had slipped free. They must have been flooring it along the motorway.

We're running a traffic blog throughout the morning and the rest of the day to advise of any incidents affecting travel throughout Glasgow across road and rail. For all updates, you can follow the blog here.
