M8 motorway crash: Police hunt driver who fled scene after six car collision

Police have launched an investigation after a six-car crash on M8 motorway last night.

Emergency services were called to the scene near junction 16 at Dobbie's Loan, Cowcaddens, shortly before 10pm last night.

This morning, officers are appealing for the public's help in tracing the driver of a Vauxhall Mokka SUV who failed to stop and fled the scene following the multi-vehicle collision.

Police say one man was injured in the crash and his condition remains unknown at this time.

Police Scotland have issued a statement which says: "Around 9.50pm, police received a report of a road traffic collision involving six cars on the M8 westbound carriageway near to junction 16. A Vauxhall Mokka SUV type vehicle was also involved but failed to stop and drove off up the M8 coming off at junction 16.

"Emergency services attended and one man reported being injured.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident. Officers are keen to trace the driver of the orange or brown coloured Vauxhall Mokka, as the driver may have information which could assist in the investigation.

"Officers are also appealing for any other motorists who were on the motorway around the time of the incident who may have seen anything to contact them. In particular, anyone with a dash cam is asked to check their footage as they could have captured images with could assist police enquiries.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Road Policing officers at Govan on 101, quoting incident number 3744 of 26 May 2021."
