M8 junction four roundabout in West Lothian will remain closed for extra two weeks due to works

A busy roundabout near the M8 in West Lothian will remain shut to traffic for an additional two weeks – with the road closure now in-place until 22 March.

The A801 roundabout at junction four, near East Whitburn, has been off-limits since the start of February to allow for a "full road reconstruction" to be carried out. The project was only supposed to last four weeks, but this has been extended due to the adverse weather.

West Lothian Council, however, say that this is just a precautionary measure, and the works could still be completed within the next week, and in the original timescale.

The restrictions see the A801 closed from the junction with the A705 to Pottishaw Roundabout, while the right and left turn lanes used to access the A801 from the A705 are also shut. On and off slips for junction four of the M8 are also shut.

Diversions are in place for eastbound and westbound traffic accessing the M8, and A801 traffic.

The project is being undertaken after a site investigation on the roundabout last year found that "continuous potholing" has been occurring on the carriageway surface.

For more information on the project, visit the West Lothian Council website.
