M8 incident: Occupants of white car urged to come forward after 44-year-old man dies

The driver of a white car seen on the M8 around the time a 44-year-old man was killed is being urged to come forward.

Police say the motorist could be able to assist their enquiries as they investigate the death of a pedestrian. The man died after being hit by multiple vehicles on the motorway between junctions 3A and 4, near Bathgate, in the early hours of this morning.

Officers also want any other drivers who were in the area at the time, and may have dashcam footage, to help.

The incident happened on the westbound carriageway at around 2.45am on New Year's Day. The road was closed for a number of hours as police conducted crash investigation works, before reopening the route around 11am.

Sergeant Jill Kirkpatrick wants any potential witnesses to make themselves known.

She said: “I would like to thank everyone who has helped us so far with our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened and I am appealing to anyone else who may have seen this incident to get in touch.

“In particular we are keen to speak to the occupants of a white coloured car seen at the time of the collision and anyone else who may have dash-cam footage that could help with our enquiries.

“If you can help please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1066 of Friday, 1 January, 2020.”
