M8 Hermiston Gait crash causes travel chaos between Edinburgh and Glasgow

A crash between Edinburgh and Glasgow has caused tailbacks on the busy M8 this morning.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the eastbound carriageway at junction one, Hermiston Gait, with travellers stuck in rush hour delays.

Traffic Scotland tweeted about the accident to alert commuters just after 8 am on Monday 8 February.

A photograph shared shows traffic building up in the wake of the crash on one of Scotland's busiest stretches of motorway.

A spokesperson said: "M8 eastbound at J1 Hermiston Gait lane three of three is blocked by an Road Traffic Collision (RTC).

"Traffic is coping but take care on your approach."

It is not yet known if anyone has been injured. The area has now been cleared but travellers can still expect delays.

Edinburgh Live has contacted Police Scotland for comment.
