M8 crash update: Two children remain 'in critical condition' in Edinburgh hospital

Two children remain in a 'critical condition' in hospital following a horror crash on the M8 near Edinburgh on Sunday morning.

Police have confirmed that the two young children, aged six and 14, are still being treated for serious injuries at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh.

The accident occurred at approximately 9.50am on October 17, at Junction 4 near Whitburn and invlolved a black Volkswagen Golf and a brown Ford Focus.

The occupants of the Ford Focus, that included a man, woman and the two children, were taken to the Royal Infirmary and the Sick Kids in Edinburgh, with serious injuries.

The other female driver of the Volkswagen Golf was taken to University Hospital Wishaw as she had also sustained serious injuries., the Daily Record also reports.

The entire section of the road from Junction 4 until Junction 5 was closed until 2:35pm.

Sergeant Jennifer Forbes said: “We’re asking for anyone who witnessed the collision or has any potential dashcam footage of the cars involved to please come forward.

“If you believe you can assist our investigation, please call 101, quoting incident 1158 of 17 October.”
