M8 crash: Road closed in Edinburgh after two-vehicle smash near Hermiston Gait

A stretch of the M8 has been closed after a two vehicle crash near Hermiston Gait.

The accident happened at around 12.30pm on Saturday on the eastbound approach to the Hermiston Gait roundabout.

Traffic Scotland reported at around 1.15pm that the M8 had been closed between the roundabout and the City Bypass off-slip.

Queues are said to be stretching back to junction two Claylands, with journey times of 45-minutes to the Gogar roundabout.

The road reopened at around 2.30pm but lengthy delays remained in the area.

Emergency services were also called to an accident on Edinburgh's West Approach Road earlier this afternoon.

One vehicle left the main carriageway, and ended up on an embankment. We'll bring you more on this as we get it.

Footage taken at the scene shows considerable damage to the car involved.

Lothian Country posted on Twitter to say that buses are not able to serve West Approach Road as a result, and are instead diverted at Fountain Park, Henderson Terrace, Gorgie Road and Westfield Road.
