M8 crash: Man, 35, arrested in connection with fatal smash on motorway

Police have confirmed that a 35-year-old male has been arrested in connection with alleged road traffic offences following a fatal crash which killed three men on the M8.

The crash occurred around 5.05am this morning (September 19) when a blue Audi Q7 left the road on the M8 westbound between Junction 29 (St James/Paisley) and Junction 31 (Bishopton).

Emergency services attended and two men both aged 27 and one man aged 31 were pronounced dead at the scene.

Five other men were taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The westbound carriageway remains closed at this time while a full collision investigation is carried out.

A statement from Police Scotland read: "A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences following a crash on the M8 at junction 31 westbound around 5.05am on Sunday, 19 September, 2021.

"Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 0860 of 19/09/21."
