M8 crash: Edinburgh smash causes chaos near city bypass as drivers face delays

Drivers have been warned they may face delays on the M8 on Tuesday morning following a road traffic collision.

Traffic Scotland has issued an alert to motorists after a crash was confirmed to have taken place at the Hermiston Gait junction of the M8.

Reported shortly after 10am, the second lane of the motorway is restricted heading eastbound, with TRISS now on route to the scene of the incident.

It is currently unclear if there have been any injuries as a result of the crash.

Live traffic images from the M8 have shown long and congested queues forming from behind the second lane, which appears to be just a short distance back from the Hermiston Gait roundabout.

The area is often busy with traffic, with the surrounding junctions also connecting to the Edinburgh City Bypass.

A warning from Traffic Scotland read: "Hermiston Gait Lane 2 restricted at J1 eastbound due to an RTC TRISS are en route

"Traffic is heavy on approach."

Police Scotland have been contacted for further information.
