M8 crash causes road closure near Glasgow with lengthy delays expected

A section of the M8 was closed just west of Glasgow this afternoon following a two-vehicle road crash.

The collision happened on the westbound section of the motorway between junctions 26 and 27, near Renfrew, at around 12pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services are in attendance and two lanes are closed.

An earlier tweet from Traffic Scotland said that all three lanes of the road had been initially closed and that emergency services were on their way.

A later Traffic Scotland update with incident details said: "Road closed to all traffic due to a road traffic incident. Road users are advised to leave the M8 at Jct 26 (W) and use an alternative route."

A further message at 12.23pm said lane three has been reopened with the other two lanes remaining closed.

Delays are expected in the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12 noon on Tuesday, 5 October, to a report of a crash on the M8 westbound between junctions 26 and 27, involving two vehicles.

"Emergency services are in attendance and two lanes are closed.”
