M8 closed: Serious crash closes motorway eastbound near West Lothian

A series accident has closed the eastbound carriage of the M8 near West Lothian.

Traffic is said to be coping well, but carriage remains closed between junction 4 and junction 3A due to a police incident.

The road is expected to be closed between Whitburn and Bathgate for some time whilst emergency services deal with the incident, Traffic Scotland said.

They posted on Twitter : "M8 remains closed E/B J4-J3a due to a police incident Emergency services are on scene.

"The road is likely to remain closed for some time Updates as we get them."

It is unknown if anyone was injured or how many vehicles are invovled.

Traffic is being taken off at junction four.

Police Scotland received reports of the incident shortly after 6pm on Tuesday (20 October).

A force spokesperson told Edinburgh Live : "Police were called around 6.25pm on Tuesday 20 October, to a report of a road crash on the M8 at Junction 3 eastbound.

"Officers are at the scene."
