M8 closed due to 'police incident' and will remain shut for 'some time'

Cops have closed off one of Scotland's busiest roads this morning due to an "incident".

Traffic Scotland took to social media saying the M8 between Junction 3A and Junction 4, near Bathgate, was shut westbound due to a "police incident".

The motorway which runs between Edinburgh and Glasgow was closed at around 6am this morning and is expected to be shut for "some time".

It is not known the reason for the lengthy closure.

Traffic Scotland is advising people to use alternative routes while the route remains closed.

The account tweeted: "The #M8 remains CLOSED westbound J3A to J4 due to a police incident and will remain closed for some time.

"Please #UseAltRoute meantime."

The M8 has been reopened. Traffic Scotland posted an update at around 11.15am saying the road was open again in both directions.
