M74 traffic chaos as emergency services race to crash in rush hour

A rush hour crash on the M74 is causing huge tailbacks this morning.

The collision happened on the northbound carriageway between junction 6 and 5 at around 7am.

Emergency services raced to the scene following the one vehicle crash.

Queues of up to 40 minutes are being reported on the busy motorway (Traffic Scotland)

Two lanes have been closed off and traffic is queuing back to junction 7.

Delays of approximately 40 minutes are being reported on the busy motorway.

Police Scotland confirmed there are no serious injuries as a result of the crash.

Traffic Scotland said: "07:00 #M74 northbound J6 to J5 Lane 3 of 3 is blocked by an RTC. Police are en route."

They later added: "07:50 #M74 northbound J6 to J5 Lane 3 remains closed. Lanes 1 and 2 are running. Traffic is queuing back to J7 - delays approx 40 mins."

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Record: "Around 7am on Friday, 18 December, officers were called to the M74 Northbound at junction 6, following a crash involving one car.

"There are no reported serious injuries."
