M74 serious crash: Motorway closed at Lesmahagow after collision between two motorbikes and car

Traffic on the M74 has been brought to a standstill following a serious crash.

A northbound section of the motorway has been shut down by following a collision involving two motorbikes and a car which took place earlier this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene between Junction 10 and 11 near Lesmahagow at around 1.40pm.

Eyewitnesses say a helicopter has been scrambled to the area, while a smaller southbound section of the motorway has also been shut down at Junction 9 to facilitate emergency services.

Police Scotland have advised they remain at the scene, with a spokesperson commenting: “Around 1.40pm on Saturday, 24 July, officers were called to the M74 northbound between junctions 11 and 10, following a report of a road crash involving two motorbikes and a car.

UPDATE: A man has tragically died following the crash:

"Emergency services remain at the scene and the road is currently closed.”
