M74 crash: Woman rushed to hospital with serious injuries after two car collision

A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a two vehicle collision on the M74 last night.

Police and ambulance crews raced to the scene of the crash between Junction 6 (Hamilton) and and 7 (Larkhall) after the alarm was raised around 8:20pm.

The 20-year-old, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was rushed to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The other three passengers were also taken to Wishaw General Hospital as a precaution after the smash, which involved a black Ford Focus and black Seat Leon.

The motorway was shut southbound for over three hours last night to allow debris to be cleared from the road.

Police enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We received a report of a two vehicle collision on the M74 between junction 6 and 7 around 8.20pm on Thursday, 23 September.

"It involved a black Ford Focus and black Seat Leon. A 20-year-old woman, who was a passenger within the Seat Leon, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious but not believed to be life threatening injuries. The other three passengers were taken to Wishaw General as a precaution.

"The road was shut for just over three hours to allow debris to be cleared. Enquiries are ongoing."
