M74 crash: Man rushed to hospital after car crashes into barrier

A man has been rushed to hospital after his car crashed into a barrier on the M74 motorway.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, near Hamilton Services, at around 3.20pm this afternoon.

The crash led to the closure of three lanes and resulted in significant traffic delays of up to 45 minutes.

The motorway was re-opened at around 4.30pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed to Glasgow Live: “Around 3.20 pm on Thursday, 15 April, 2021, police attended a report of a car having collided with the crash barrier on the M74 eastbound near to Hamilton Services.

“The male driver of the car has been taken by ambulance to University Hospital Hairmyres.

“All lanes of the motorway were re-opened at around 4.30 pm.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the crash.”
